Spoiler in the last line!!
What is it about
Set in New York city, a man and a woman in their sixties meet during jury duty. While they wait to be called to become a jury member, they begin to get to know one other. Though it starts as a casual crush, it develops into something deep in the course of a week. They would grab coffee at the café, where they befriend an Italian barista, eat Chinese meals, explore art galleries, and walk around the city. Despite being married to other people, they must decide whether they want to act on their feelings or walk away.
What I like about it
André Aciman is a master in creating naturally flowing dialogue and atmosphere of yearning and emotional connection between two individuals. With a somewhat ambiguous ending, I like how the author lets us readers come to our own conclusion.
